Weary Mom Diaper Rash “Dream Cream”

With my youngest son, I quickly realized that something was up with his GI system. He cried constantly (a different cry than his colicky brother) his bowel movements looked like something out of a horror movie (I will spare you the picture that showed the doctor – you’re welcome) and then came the vomiting with the rotten-egg odor.

When my son was a newborn, I had eliminated many of my foods since I was breastfeeding; trying to find the trigger that was wreaking havoc on his tiny body.

Nevertheless, his symptoms continued, and the bowel movements were leaving his bottom looking worse than road rash; I’m talking bloody pulps, people. After 12 straight days of this, my mom (who is a nurse) suggested a mixture that became our miracle cream; worth its weight in gold. I’m happy to share this tried-and-true cream below.

After many trials and a visit to a Holistic Nutritionist, we narrowed my son’s issue down to gluten. He’s 8 now and is still gluten intolerant. It’s real. Trust me, we’ve tried. The mixture became a lifesaver while we investigated what was causing his body’s adverse reaction.

I am sharing this magic mixture with you because I am sure there are other families dealing with the same, or similar, issues. Over the years, I have had multiple moms ask me for the recipe. I have offered this recipe to those at their wit’s end, hoping to give some comfort and healing to their baby’s bottom and it hasn’t disappointed.

Here it is (thanks again for coming to my rescue, mom).

Diaper Rash Dream Cream

Ingredients

  • Oatmeal
  • Liquid Antacid (I prefer Mylanta ®)
  • Diaper Rash Ointment (store brand works well)
  • Sealable Plastic Storage Bag
  • Disposable Gloves

Directions

Shake the bottle of antacid well. Mix equal parts of oatmeal, antacid and diaper rash ointment in the bag. Squeeze to combine ingredients. With gloves on apply directly to baby’s bottom. If the area is too sore to touch apply to the diaper, coating on a thick layer.

See my how-to video below. Special thanks to Nomad Productions.

  2. This is so helpful! I have twin girls that are 4 months old and get diaper rash pretty frequently. I’m going to try this! 🙂
